The Centro Studi Italiani in collaboration with l’Accademia Marchigiana di Musica Antica and l’Associazione Compagnia del Recitar Cantando, organizes two courses aimed at two different levels of training in Italian baroque music.

1° COURSE:


Three weeks, for Italian singers, from 17 August to 3 September

Four weeks, for non-Italian singers, from 9 August (the first week intensive Italian course) to 3 September

Opera Studio “Alcina”

The Centro studi Italiani has set up a competition for singers to study and perform in:
Alcina
Musical Drama in three acts

Music by G. F. HAENDEL (1685 – 1759) - Anonymous libretto, based on ”Orlando Furioso” (canti VI – VII)

First performance: 16 April 1735, Royal Theatre, Covent Garden, London.

REGULATIONS

1) The course, open to singers who wish to study baroque repertoire, will take place at the Centro Studi Italiani a Urbania (Pesaro e Urbino), via Boscarini 1, from 9 August to 3 September non-Italian singers and from 17 August to 3 September for Italian singers. There will be Italian lessons for the foreign singers, private lessons in vocal technique for baroque repertoire, individual and group coaching sessions in baroque repertoire interpretation, especially for the opera “ALCINA” di G.F. Handel.

2) The enrolment form and must be sent no later than 31 July 2009 together with the receipt of your deposit payment Euro 249,00 to be sent either by bank wire transfer or by international postal order (see further ahead for details).
The management reserves the right to accept or not accept applications that arrive after this date.

3) Candidates who are considered suitable will be given a part in the opera “ALCINA” by G. F. Handel.
The opera will be performed at the “Bramante” theater in Urbania on 2 and 3 September 2009 and will be conducted by Maestro Paolo Faldi. Candidates who are not chosen for the opera can take part in the “Italian Baroque” course and sing in other concerts organized for them.

4) Together with their completed enrolment form candidates must include the following:
  a) A recording of two live pieces (audio and/or video of different periods and styles of baroque repertoire, sung in Italian
  b) A CV and a photo.
These must be sent to: Centro Studi Italiani, Via Boscarini 1, 61049 Urbania (PU).

5) All participants who attend regularly will be awarded a certificate of attendance.

6) The Centro Studi Italiani reserves the right to modify any of the above regulations. If this should be necessary, participants will be informed as soon as possible.

7) Participation in the course automatically means the above regulations have been accepted.

Director: Paolo Faldi

Diplomato in oboe, flute and baroque flute. In 1988 Paolo Faldi was nominated first oboe and flute player in the European Baroque Orchestra and toured Europe under the guidance of Roy Goodman and Ton Koopman. Since 1989 he has played with Hesperion XXI and Le Concert de Nations conducted by Jordi Savall, participating in numerous concerts, recordings and tours of Europe, America and Asia. He has played with the most important Italian and European groups of antique music. He is the founder of the Orchestra Barocca di Bologna. He teaches flute at the Conservatory of Vicenza.

“Italian Baroque”

For young singers and instrumentalists who are interested in XVI to XVIII century repertoire.

REGULATIONS

1) The course is open to singers and instrumentlists interested in XVI to XVIII century repertoire and will take place at the Centro Studi Italiani in Urbania (Pesaro e Urbino), via Boscarini 1, from 9 August to 5 September (4 weeks) for non-Italian singers and from 17 August to 5 September (3 weeks) for Italian singers and instrumentalists. Non-Italian singers will have lessons in Italian language, plus individual lessons in vocal technique for baroque repertoire, individual and group lessons in baroque repertoire interpretation. .

2) The enrolment form and CV must be sent no later than 31 July 2009 together with receipt of deposit payment of Euro 249,00 to be sent either by wire transfer or postal order (see ahead for details).
The management reserves the right to decide whether latecomers can be accepted or not.

3) Instrumentalists who are considered suitable will play in Handel’s opera“ALCINA” will receive a study grant of Euro 100. The opera will be performed at the theatre in Urbania on 2 and 3 September 2009 and will be conducted by M° Paolo Faldi.

4) Candidates who are not chosen for the opera will be able to take part in the concerts.
